Thanks for stopping by. We are glad you are here.

One question drives us: “How can your church minister to more people in better ways?”

We teach, train, and write about proven and battle-tested ways to accomplish this high calling. 25 years of research and practice inform our ways to develop your church’s leadership.

Your church will only grow to the capacity of its leadership.

And it’s more than organizational leadership. It’s establishing spiritual and missional leadership too.

This is one of the reasons, according to one Barna study, that 50% of pastors surveyed believed that seminary didn’t adequately prepare them for ministry. Would you agree?

To be fair, a seminary is an academic institution so they take an academic approach to teach leadership. Yet, learning about church leadership is not limited to reading books, and attending classes and conferences. It’s actually doing it. It is a skill to be developed.

We are told to look for leaders. Look for those who have the “gift” of leadership and get them plugged in. If we don’t have leaders, we pray for them to walk through the doors. When that doesn’t happen, a sinking feeling wells up inside then you settle for “this is as good as it gets” as you plug in wonderful and loving people into predetermined ministry slots regardless of their training or giftedness. They do their best, but it’s just not quite enough.

This is why you feel trapped. We know. We’ve been there, done that.

There is a way out.

Here it is: develop your people into leaders.

In Acts 6, the recently planted church faced its first leadership hurdle. The widows were not getting fed. The Apostles sprung into action to increase the church’s leadership capacity to care for the community AND grow its impact. Imagine if the Apostles didn’t. The church would have limited its growth because the Apostles would be caring for the material needs of the church AND preaching, teaching, and praying. Sound familiar?

You can develop your people into leaders too. It’s the way the church has grown for centuries.

You need to have a proven process and methodology that you can trust to develop that skill. Do you?

Using our battle-tested process, we will come alongside you to establish a leadership development process that works.

One of the observations we have made in working with hundreds of churches over the years is that churches grow on the edges.

“The front edge is evangelism and gathering new people; the back edge is leadership development. When we evangelize and gather new people, we grow the church. When we raise up and multiply leaders, we grow the capacity of the church to minister to more people in better ways.”

When your church grows in capacity:

  • Mobilizing people into ministry will replace recruiting volunteers. Yes, there is a difference. A big one.
  • People will no longer feel weird or awkward about living missionally or making disciples.
  • You will notice an uptick in biblical character and knowledge in your leaders.
  • You will be able to discover, develop, and deploy new leaders.
  • You will model how to develop leaders by apprenticing, mentoring, and coaching them. Yes, there is a difference.
  • Ministries of the church will multiply.

Result? The congregation will grow in its capacity to minister to more people in better ways.

We will spend time with you to get you there.

How does developing church leaders through The Leadership Ladder work?

It is a transformational 12-month cohort-based program designed for pastors who need to develop more church leaders. You will develop 48 skills as you develop your leadership to become spiritual and missional leaders. We meet as a cohort 8 times while you will meet with your advisor one-on-one 16 times.

We’ve designed the process to keep everything moving. There won’t be much new content because we are focused on turning your knowledge into skill.

How much time will take?

Two to three hours a week at the most.

How much does it cost?

When pricing “Developing Church Leadership Through The Leadership Ladder” we considered the following:

  1. Your energy: The cost of having limited leadership that drains you.
  2. Your time: The cost of not knowing how to fix the problem despite multiple attempts.
  3. Your congregation’s identity: The cost of people in your neighborhood not knowing you.
  4. Your health: The physical toll of pastoring alone that sucks the life out of you
  5. The freedom that comes from figuring it out
  6. The financial burden: The cost of not developing sustainable leaders over the long haul.

The investment is $2,000. It includes:

  • All materials
  • One cohort call every six weeks. This is discussion-based.
  • One one-on-one call bi-weekly. This is applying the discussion to your context.

You will have eight cohort calls and 16 one-on-one calls throughout the year.
