Establishing a Healthy Church DNA

CHURCH HEALTH ASSESSMENT CASE STUDY

AXIOM CHURCH

TELL ME MORE

Located in downtown Peoria, Arizona, Axiom Church was planted just over 10 years ago by Gavin Linderman. It is a vibrant church with a solid base of young families. They hold two services every Sunday.

HERE IS WHAT THEY WERE FACING

When Gavin and his team planted Axiom, they attracted a growing group of young adults from the arts community. Ten years later, Gavin knew it was time to update their vision, redefine who they wanted to reach, and revise their plan. Most of the original group were now married with kids, and he didn’t want the church to remain rooted in the past.

HERE IS WHAT THEY WANTED TO ACHIEVE

They wanted to understand where they stood in their life cycle. Our Lifecycle Assessment is a tool that pinpoints whether a church is growing in healthy ways, plateauing, or declining.

HERE IS WHAT HAPPENED

Gavin asked the staff and elders to complete the assessment. They discovered they were in an ideal position to update their vision and plan for the next ten years.
Without this step, institutional creep could have set in, leading to a plateau.
We also held two debriefs—one for the elders and one for the staff. They processed the findings, discussed the implications, and made plans to adjust their strategy to maintain a healthy and vibrant position.
More importantly, they learned they were lagging in four predictive indicators of health and vibrancy. Armed with this insight, they were able to self-correct and stay on a healthy trajectory.

HERE IS WHAT WE OBSERVED

The two groups genuinely wrestled with the results. Some perceptions of the church clashed with the reality revealed by the assessment. We spent considerable time unpacking the findings with them, and it was clear that some leaders had never considered thinking in these terms before.
The assessment process served as a launching pad for their vision and planning efforts.
