Meet Robert Payne

REV. ROBERT PAYNE
Worship Arts Search Lead (Phoenix-based)
Rev. Robert Payne brings nearly three decades of ministry experience serving in large, multi-staff churches and faith-based organizations. His ministry background spans worship, creative arts, leadership development, community engagement, and pastoral ministry, giving him a unique understanding of both church culture and organizational dynamics.
Throughout his career, Robert has served in a variety of leadership roles, including Director of Worship at Desert Mission United Methodist Church, Pastor of Worship and Arts at North Ridge Community Church, and Director of Worship at North Phoenix Baptist Church, where he spent 18 years in multiple leadership capacities. He has also served as Community Development Director for 1703: A Faith Collaboration and Social Thread before becoming Pastor of Desert Foothills United Methodist Church.
Having spent years leading worship ministries, building teams, working alongside senior pastors, and serving on large church staffs, Robert has developed an instinctive ability to recognize a congregation’s unique culture, vision, and leadership needs. His broad ministry experience enables him to thoughtfully connect churches with candidates who are not only qualified but who are also the right fit for the church’s mission, values, and future direction.
Robert holds a Master of Divinity from the Candler School of Theology at Emory University and a Bachelor of Arts from Grand Canyon University. He and his wife, Dawn, enjoy spending time with their creative and energetic family.
What drives Robert is finding the right worship people to clique with Senior Pastor so they can work together as a cohesive team to create an environment for the congregation to worship and glorify God for his mercy and grace.
