Thursday morning might seem like an odd time to post to my Tuesday morning blog, but it’s been a busy week – not that all weeks aren’t busy. After four days in Atlanta I only had two days in my office and those days were jam packed with phone consultations. Yesterday was a full day of travel so all of a sudden it’s Thursday.
As I type this, I’m sitting at my desk in a hotel in New Jersey just across the river from Manhattan. I’m on the ninth floor with an amazing view of the sunrise that just broke the horizon, now reflecting offthe Manhattan skyline. I’m here today and tomorrow to attend a conference of Korean pastors and leaders with my friend and colleague, Tong Park. We are embarking on an initiative to develop a ministry of planting and revitalization among Korean churches in the eastern U.S. I’ve worked with Tong many times before in southern California, and he took me to South Korea a few years ago to lead a few training conferences there. I think today is going to be both fun and meaningful, and we’re repeating this conference in northern Virginia next week.
On the train ride from Richmond to Newark yesterday, I began my final reading and proofing of the rough draft of a book that I’m writing with Steve Ogne, another long-time friend and colleague who just happens to be about the most seasoned church planting coach on the planet. The draft will be in the hands of our editor by the middle of next week. The title of the book is, The Leadership Ladder, a model for developing missional leaders in the church that Steve developed. I have added my two or three cents worth to the project and I’m pleased with how it’s turning out. I’m sure I’ll get the word out when the book is available. Two other manuscripts of mine are slated for publication this year, so 2014 is looking the year of publishing. About time!!!
I’ve got to grab some breakfast and run. I only know two words in Korean, “hello” and “thank you,” but they got me through ten days in South Korea a few years back. I’ll be speaking today through Tong as my translator. I wonder if he’ll really say what I say or if he’ll make something up. I wouldn’t know the difference.
