Happy New Year!
We are now thirteen years past Y2K and have survived the end of the world allegedly predicted by the Mayans for December 21. It seems there is work yet to be done. The world will end one day, but it will end according to God’s timing, God of the Bible that is. Frankly, I’m ready now. No, I don’t have a death wish, but I do have an eternal life wish, actually a hope that is well founded:
27 To them God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. 28 Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ. 29 For this I toil, struggling with all his energy that he powerfully works within me. Colossians 1:27-29
I was struck this morning by the crazy contrast between the things of God the things of the world. I clicked on Alistair Begg’s daily devotional, Truth for Life, and read through a short message titled, Renew Your Strength Through God. This was Begg’s encouragement at the start of the new year to place our focus on God, the source of all strength and joy, calling us to trump mourning over our failures and disappointments with rejoicing in what we have in Him.
I receive this daily devotional through my email, and it’s always accompanied by advertisements and links appearing in a column at the far right of my computer screen. Today one of the ads/links read:
Man Cheats Credit Score:
1 simple trick & my credit score jumped 217 pts. Banks hate this!
Wow! My dilemma was which to choose. Do I follow Alistair Begg’s encouragement to rejoice in the Lord or do I click on the article that promises to jump my credit score 217 points? What a minute! How reliable is a guy who had enough head room in his credit score to jump 217 points? How reliable is Jesus?
Hmmm! Happy New Year!
